Engagement Proposal: Candlelight Dinner on Bali Beach

Engagement Proposal: Candlelight Dinner on Bali Beach

Inspiration

During my research about different marriage proposals, I have fallen immediately in lovely with the idea of an engagement proposal on the beach. Because I am a big fan of Bali and it`s location in the Indian ocean, I have combined these both things with each other and have created an unforgettable marriage proposal.

Who? (with who?)

The guy named Alexander (aged 28) is German and the girl named Yumi (aged 26) is Balinese.

Alex works in a successful event design company in Hamburg, Germany. According to his passed bachelor degree in tourism & event management he has travelled through Asia during several months. His favourite spot was the island Bali (Indonesia). Thus he has spent the last weeks up to his home flight there.

Yumi has balinese roots and has lived up to her 8th year together with her family on Bali. Today Yumi lives in the capital of Germany, Berlin, and has successfully concluded her study in an graphic & design university. On account of her wanderlust Yumi tries to fly at least once a year to Indonesia to see her family & relatives.

4 years ago Alex and Yumi were apart of each other on vacation on Bali. On their return flight to Germany both sat side by side in the airplane. Like the destiny so wanted the both have got into conversation and were likeable to themselves from the outset. Experiences have been exchanged, the boy and the girl joked a lot and exchanged after the 12-hour flight, finally, also the mobile phone numbers. After several dates they fell in love and spent their vacations on Bali – also this year.

What?

After a 4-year relationship Alex would like to make a marriage proposal to Yumi.

When?

Alex and Yumi are on their second common vacation on Bali, the island which has brought them together.

Where?

Bali owns some of the nicest beaches worldwide. Where, if not there? With a surprise dinner with candlelight the big moment has come.

Why?

Alex and Yumi are for several years firmly together and still in love thus like on the first day. Alex knows that his respect with Yumi cannot be nicer and he would like to spend the rest of his life with her side by side. He knows how much Yumi loves her family and her native country, so he has decided to propose marriage to her – after preserved blessing of her father here on Bali.

How?

After a romantic dinner on a lonesome beach the both decide on a relaxed walk along the beach. By candles distributed everywhere on the beach the atmosphere is magic. After a few minutes the both come to a way lined up from candles which leads up on a rock. On top Yumi recognizes a heart laid from shells with a ring being arranged in the sand. At the same moment Alex gets on his knees and asks Yumi whether she would like to become his wife.

After the expected „YES!“ both let the evening end – happy under the stars.

Key Elements

The key elements can be found in the sea of candles and the togetherness on the beach. Because the island has a symbolic value of the couple, is reflected here the uniqueness and memorability of the idea.

Engagement Concept:

Research Findings:

After doing all my research I found that for most couples the more intimate and meaningful the proposal the happier their marriage. For most proposals that I read about the guy in the relationship would always look for the element of surprise. Many of the websites I visit has a section designated to unique ways to surprise your future bride. Due to this research I made sure to include meaning and surprise in the proposal. With my research in mind I feel that this engagement concept will work for every couple.

Who?

Richard and Deborah has been together for 3 years they meet through mutual friends. Both are young professionals therefore they do not have a lot of money. They have many things in common like cooking, hiking, and skiing. They have been living together for 1 year now. Richard knows she is the one for him and wants to save up the money to buy her the perfect engagement ring.couple2

Where?

For this style of engagement the guy could easily plan a party however if not and instead he desired a more intimate setting he could ask in their house with a romantic dinner planned.  Nevertheless, with the current plan Richard will plan a small party in a location close to their house, preferably a roof-top terrace or back garden. There everyone will be ready to watch the proposal and celebrate their engagement.engagementparty

When?

Right before they sit down for her favourite meal and enjoy a small celebration with close friends and family. Exactly 125 days after Valentines Day, which would be mid-June.v-dayjuneWhy?

By waiting for 125 days before asking the guy has time to accumulate the extra funds needed to purchase the best possible engagement ring. With a daily love note Deborah knows just how much she means to him. Also due to the fact that she received the note in February she then knows just how long the guy has wanted to ask her and spend the rest of his life with her.  ring

How?

Valentine’s Day comes around where the guy decides to give his girlfriend a jar filled with 124 reasons why he loves her, the last note will say:

“For the last reason why I love you go to the roof…”

When he gives her the jar they both agree that she will open and read the note at 17:00 every day until she gets to the last note. On that night the guy will prepare her favourite meal and plan a romantic night. At 17:00 while she is reading the note he will be upstairs with all the people she loves the most waiting on one knee to ask her to marry him. After she accepts his proposal there will be a dinner party.love notes jar

Engagement Proposal Concept: Hot air balloon

Engagement Proposal Concept: Hot air balloon

After getting inspired by the stories I read and saw online on memorable engagement proposals like this and this, I decided to create my own version of the story (apparently the concept has been done already). I will share with you, readers, my take on a fictional engagement proposal.

Who

Zandra Luz, a twenty-six year old Spanish lady and Jeff Reyes, a twenty-nine year old Filipino man make a decision that will be remembered forever.

When

On the 18th of October 2015, the long awaited proposal will take place. Since it was the day of the hot air balloon festival, the guy decided to pop the lifetime question on this day.

Where

The romantic proposal takes place in Clark, Pampanga in the Philippines. There will be a number of hot air balloons that will take off that day to celebrate the festival.

Source: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/525724956475657492/

How

Prior to the engagement day, the guy secretly tells his and the girl’s family that he plans to propose on the 18th of October 2015. He gives tickets to both families for the hot air balloon festival without letting the girl know.

At the day of the proposal, the girl has no idea that her family as well as the guy’s family is at the same location as them. The guy makes sure that both families hop on different hot air balloons at the same time as them. The families try to disguise themselves by wearing accessories like shades and hats. The guy makes sure that the girl’s eyes are focused on him.

The guy messages both families that the moment has arrived. Up in the air while fascinated by the beauty the couple see on the horizon and below them, the man pretends to take a photo of the girl beautifully leaning against the corner of the hot air balloon with a stunning backdrop. The guy kneels down to position himself to blurt out the big question, “Will you marry me?” The girl readily poses for the photo thinking he’s about to reach for his camera behind him. At the back of her mind, she has not an ounce of clue that what is about to happen next may change the path of her life. She’s excited thinking about how the photo will turn out with a backdrop she’s always wanted to capture with her as the subject. What she doesn’t know is that the guy kneels down and looks behind him not to grab his camera, but instead the gem he’s been long wanting to put on the girl’s finger.

He pops the question and the girl says “yes” in absolute shock and happiness. “I know how important our families are to us and I didn’t want this memorable moment to be shared just by the two of us. Look around you,” says the guy. The girl scans her horizon and sees both her and the guy’s families waving and she hears shouts of joy. Just like the hot air balloon experience, it was a peaceful, slow, steady, unexpected proposal.

Why

The couple love to seek adventure and experience new things together. They both enjoy photography. The girl has always wished to hop on a hot air balloon as she enjoys viewing things from a high angle. The guy decides to fulfil her wish she’s waited to experience. Now, not only was her long time wish granted, but she was able to spend the experience with the love of her life, her husband-to-be.

Wedding Theme: Under the Stars

Wedding Theme: Under the Stars

What would be more romantic than getting married under the stars?

Invitations

The invitation tells guests something about the theme of the wedding. It could look romantic and include starry night sky with flowers and trees.

invitation

Venue

The ceremony would be held in a planetarium. It is possible to bring chairs there and create an aisle to walk to “the altar”. Besides some flowers, this venue doesn’t need other decorations because it is stunningly beautiful. One option for planetarium is The Franklin Institute which is located in Philadelphia. (Any other planetarium would suit well, too.)

After this is the reception. It would be held in a building with glass roof. Another really good alternative is to have a tent outside. Then the reception could be almost anywhere if there is enough space for it.

planetariumvenue2

Flowers and decoration

Mostly used colors are white, gold, silver and different shades of blue. Tables are decorated with flowers and candles. To create a feeling of night sky, there would be lights and stars on the ceiling.

Wedding attire

Bride’s dress is white, heart shaped and has decorations on the waist. It is made from chiffon so it is lightweight and moves easily. She also has jewelry accessories.

bride dress hair1 hair2

Groom and his best men have blue suits with bow ties. Bridesmaids’ dresses should fit to the theme as well. They could have dark blue dresses with small silver decorations.

groombridesmaid dress

Food, beverages and the cake

You can serve for example a 3-course meal with any food you like. Beverages could be served from glasses which are designed with stars. The wedding cake is blue and it has silver star decorations. Other perfect desserts are cupcakes and cookies.

cakecupcakecookie

Music

There would be a band playing or a DJ with playlist so everyone can have fun on the dance floor.

Playlist examples:

One Republic – Counting Stars

Taylor Swift – Starlight

Owl City – Shooting Star

Muse – Starlight

Tinie Tempah – Written in the Stars

Entertainment

When the sun has gone down, it is time to go outside. Give every guest their own sky lantern (made from rice paper or bamboo) and light them up. When they rise, the night sky will be full of beauty and shine! This tradition is originally from Asia and it symbolizes good luck and prosperity. Other fun idea is to have sparklers!

Engagement proposal idea: Message in a bottle

Engagement proposal idea: Message in a bottle

Our own idea:

picture01

How the special day starts:

The boyfriend leaves home early and has left a letter to kitchen for his girlfriend.  The letter includes directions for the girl like “don’t eat breakfast and get ready in 30 min, comfort clothes.” When the girl wakes up she will notice the letter and get ready. After that her girlfriend picks her up and drives her to the meeting place; Emäsalo seaside. The boyfriend will be there waiting for her.

The boyfriend has arranged, with the help of his friends, a romantic and special picnic/ brunch under beautiful sun shelter on the rocks with a sea view. There will be pillows and blankets, lots of peonies and live quitar music. He has also arranged lots of goodies; macarons, berries, fruits, croissants, salad, muffins, drinks and champagne. The place and decorations would get every girl happy.

After the brunch they will walk on the rocks when the boyfrind says “hey look there is a bottle down there, let’s go and take a look”. The girl picks the bottle and takes the paper out of it. The message will be “will you marry me? ” and the boyfriend gets down on his knee with the ring.

Film Review: The Wedding Singer

Film Review: The Wedding Singer

The film industry alone inspires/motivates people to get married. Romantic comedies, chick flicks and even action films with the few minutes of romance raise the image of romance in the woman’s eyes. Women usually get ideas from these films and they immediately start brainstorming about their own wedding. Or then if they have already had their wedding, they usually have a comparative opinion about the wedding on film.

The film The Wedding Singer is one of the first movies I remember watching as a kid. The Wedding Singer falls into the category Romantic Comedy—without a doubt! In this film you can see the conflicts the wedding party doesn’t usually discuss in front of the bride. These discussions are usually the questions: Is she marrying the right guy? Are they happy/in love?

The Wedding Singer stars Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler as the lead roles. Robbie Hart (Adam Sandler) is this wedding singer who is very popular and good at his job. Robbie Hart’s career comes to a stop when his own fiancé leaves him at the altar. The story continues when Robbie Hart has a crush on Julia Sullivan (Drew Barrymore) who is engaged to someone else and so the complicated but entertaining part begins.

If you ask me, the over the top, predictable romantic comedies are the worst. I think it’s more real if there is a meet cute or the main character falls in love with someone totally unexpected and to my knowledge that’s the beauty of these kinds of movies. I guess you could call it the element of surprise.

The actors are always a key part in these romantic comedies if the actor is funny and knows how to also persuade the viewer into believing that he/she can be romantic as well. Romantic comedies can very often become cheesy when the actors over characterise. Those films don’t usually make it to the theatres and then they are labelled as trashy movies.

The 90’s had a lot of great romantic comedies and comedies as well and often my generation thinks “those were the days when the movies were good”. This may have been also because the technology level wasn’t that high yet. In a way not having high technology made the movie more real, when you could actually see the emotions and really get the meaning of the actor/actress.

If I had to rate the whole movie and my criteria’s were; how well the actors act, the setting, the clothes, the story and the element of surprise. I would give the actors 5 stars. Those two comedians are some of my favourite actors because they have this quirkiness and glee that makes you relate to them and the acting feels more genuine. For the setting and the clothes I would give a 4 because they fit the characters’ personality and the scenery of the movie really well. The Baby blue old fashioned tuxedos and the long dresses bring a sort of fifties feeling to the movie. As for the story and element of surprise, I give the movie 5 stars. The movie is very entertaining and the way to the ending isn’t predictable in the beginning of the movie. The movie is a great one to see with kids, adults or adolescents. I do recommend this to families. The granny rapping at the end will make your jaw drop to the floor!
